Free Holiday Fun at Disney Springs

There is so much free holiday fun to be had at Disney Springs this time of year. Much like everything else, it looks a little bit different this year, but my daughter and I still had a blast! The best part is (did I mention this yet?) it’s all FREE!  You can still experience Disney magic without paying the price of admission!

Tree Stroll

Mulan Tree

Before 2020, there was a Christmas Tree Trail in one section of Disney Springs. We could meet with Santa and buy treats as we checked out the beautiful trees.

This year trees are spread out throughout Disney Springs, which promotes social distancing, and also makes things less crowded. We were there mid-week, but it was quite easy to access the trees, without having to wait behind people to snap a pic or two. They are still very beautifully decked out!

Don’t forget to grab your tree scavenger hunt paper from the House of Blues Gear Shop, Guest Services, the Photopass Studio or the Rainforest Café Shop. These are also the areas where you pick up your completion gift after you find all of the trees!

TIP: Especially during daylight hours, look around carefully!  Sometimes the trees are in plain sight but you’ll miss them with all the hustle and bustle of Disney Springs. I walked past the Yoda tree about 62 times before seeing it at night, all lit up!!

TIP TWO: Pay attention to where your toddler puts the stickers 😊. I let mine put them on completely unattended and then I had a hard time figuring out where some of the remaining trees were!

TIP THREE: Get your map as soon as you get to Disney Springs! There are many, many discounts on the back of the scavenger hunt paper!!

Snow

Once it gets dark there are two places for snow flurries! My daughter about lost her mind with happiness yelling “this is amazing!” when we saw the snow. My poor Florida kid needs to see some real snow soon!! Snow can be found near the West Side Starbucks and also in the Town Center area.

Santa

Sadly we cannot get close to Santa as we did last year, but he and Mrs. Claus can be found floating around on pontoon boats, on Lake Buena Vista.

Decorations and DJ

Christmas at Disney is amazing- every park is decked out to the nines, and this year is no exception. I do really miss the animal menagerie that was started last year at Animal Kingdom, but have faith that they will bring that back next year.

Disney Springs follows suit-there are garlands on every archway, wreaths abound and oh the amount of Christmas trees, in addition to the ones for the Tree Stroll!  So.many.trees. It’s a beautiful place to visit, and if going there doesn’t get you in the holiday spirit, then you may be a Scrooge!!

There’s even a DJ towards evening that spins some tunes (I just dated myself there sorry). He’s right next to the food trucks!

How To See Other Resort Trees

Unfortunately there aren’t any resort gingerbread houses this year, but many resorts are still in the holiday spirit and we can enjoy the ambiance this brings. My favorites are Wilderness Lodge and the Grand Floridian.

In years past (like last year when my family and I spent the day resort hopping), you could bounce from one resort to the next using free Disney World transportation. Due to COVID there are far fewer options. However, you can still take a bus from Disney Springs to any resort (free of charge). Another option is to make a dining reservation at one of these resorts and drive there.

Just be aware that some resorts (like the ones on the Skyliner route) restrict people from just coming up to the resort to hang out or walk around.  Disney Springs is always a sure bet though, and it’s free to park there! Just know they do have some parking lots roped off, as there are still capacity restrictions in place.

Going to Disney Springs earlier in the day is always better, especially during Christmas time!

I hope this quick overview helps you plan out some free holiday fun during your Christmas break if you are headed to Disney Springs and the Orlando area!  Let me know if you have any questions!
