ABBQ!

Ya’ll! Move over, there’s a new BBQ joint in town, and man is it delicious! ABBQ recently moved in to the Atlantic Beach neighborhood here in Jacksonville, and guys, they serve meat by the pound! It’s Texas style, and the meat just melts.in.your.mouth.

The set up and how they move you through is slightly different than most restaurants, but once we got the hang of it, it was smooth sailing! You are greeted when you walk in, and told the seating is first come, first serve. If you want to order meat by the pound (or half pound, or several pounds haha), you walk straight ahead and order at the counter. I also just want to make a note of the parking situation. The parking lot is small, and valet parking is recommended, just to prepare you! It’s not a bad thing, we just weren’t completely ready to hop out of the car fast (we tend to slowly gather ourselves and 3 kiddos before walking into a restaurant)! 🙂

If you don’t want to order at the counter, you grab your seat (we chose a booth so we could block the kiddos on the inside) and order from the menu, which can be found here. We had a very pleasant waiter who was VERY attentive, patient with our questions, and was happy to even fill our drinks for us.

On to the food!! The adults in our group (myself, husband and sister) all ordered the same thing: the pulled pork sandwich. It came with delicious cheese sauce, vinegar sauce and pico de gallo on it. The cheese sauce was definitely made with real cheese, and the pico and vinegar sauce were the perfect compliments! The bread was very soft and I’m guessing it was made in house as well, if not they get it from somewhere amazing!

The kiddos are not huge meat eaters yet, so they all ordered the mac n cheese, which was a very reasonable $3.50 for a good portion- none of them were able to finish it! The mac n cheese comes with a bread crumb topping, and again is made with real melted cheese. I may have snuck a few bites! There are also salads on the menu, if you are a vegetarian, though you can add protein to any salad as well.

Something to note is that all sides are a la carte! Also of note, when you order the single portion of the french fries, it actually comes in the container of the next size up. We fed the whole table with one order of fries. They were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, aka perfection, and served with a special fry sauce!

This is kind of a funny thing to comment on, but the restrooms were cute- farmhouse style doors, metal sink, and they provide a stool for kids to stand on to wash their hands, which is always appreciated by this mama! They also have merchandise cabinets on the way to the restrooms.

Another nice touch was at our booth- under the lamp there were USB ports!

THEN, as if all this delicious goodness wasn’t enough, there’s a whole family friendly outside yard area. It’s fenced in, which is always a parent’s dream, with TONS of activities for the kids- like hula hoops, a chalkboard wall, picnic tables, Connect 4, beanbag toss (aka corn hole) and there’s even another restroom outside. GENIUS! The bar from inside the restaurant continues outside, which makes for a happy time for the adults. What more could you ask for?? We will be back!

This is the sign you see as you head outside to the yard! Too fun!
